We provide one-to-one Joomla Training via remote-support software which allows us to:
- Train you on managing your website from the familiarity of your own computer.
- Avoid the cost of travel time for both parties.
- Stagger training across short sessions (usually no longer than 1 hour) to avoid information overload.
We can also produce training documentation or videos for the benefit of current and future staff responsible for management of your Joomla website.
- Group Training is not offered due to the extremely wide variation in the pace that different trainees need to progress, or the experience level that different trainees need to start at. There is also an extremely wide variety of 3rd party add ons for Joomla (8000 +) which means that a one-size-fits-all approach covering every possible topic from the ground up would be vastly in excess of most client's individual needs.
- Clients generally engage us because they need to learn the main tasks specific to their own site quickly, rather than taking the time to work their way through the documentation or books
whilst relying solely on the Joomla forum for help solving problems.
Prerequisites
- For training in Joomla administration (e.g. updating a joomla site built by someone else), or setting up a joomla site from scratch using a pre-existing template, a basic level of general computer experience and competence is recommended.
- For Joomla Template Design training, advanced competence in hand-coding html and CSS, and basic familiarity with PHP is an essential pre-requisite. NOTE: We no longer provide training on this topic - training is limited to Joomla Administration. Please refer to Joomla documentation for template design & coding guidelines.
How much time is needed?
This varies greatly from trainee to trainee, and depends on:
- Prior experience
- The complexity of your site
- The range of tasks you wish to learn
For some trainees with prior experience with similar programs, as little as half an hour is sufficient to give a general overview of differences between Joomla and other programs like WordPress or Drupal, and to run through a list of questions the trainee has saved up. Generally though, most people require 2-4 hours to cover the basics of:
- A structural overview (menus, modules and articles), and learning how to find what you want to edit.
- Working with web based html WYSIWYG editors (editing text and inserting images on web pages) and some of the traps for new users.
- The differences between web based HTML styling with external style sheets, versus the inline styling that most people are used to in programs like MS Word.
Other clients require much more comprehensive training to cover a wider range of advanced topics or particular extensions installed on their website.
Whilst it is not possible to cover every possible topic related to the Joomla core or any of the 8000+ add on extensions in a short period of time, many clients use us as a valuable resource to partner with their own staff to train them on techniques or solve problems they might otherwise waste many hours using the wrong approach or tools for what they're trying to achieve, or by trying to learn everything from scratch.
